Keys to the Game:

Our Michael Kirwan has been scouting the Clippers of late…

The Clippers have been using Jordan in a distributor mode from the elbow. He looks to hand it off and set the screen. The Warriors have to watch the backdoor and overplay the hand-off, they may just be able to take it from him.

Jordan has also been repeatedly looking to push the ball by passing after a defensive rebound, with outstanding success. The Warriors cannot just turn their heads and run in this situation. Anyone near Jordan should continue to harass him with their hands up just as if they were playing halfcourt defense. Coaches love deflections and stopping one of his rocket armed led fastbreaks would certainly make coach Kerr smile.

Griffin vehemently coached backup big Spencer Hawes into cutting back door in the Clippers last preseason game the other day. They’ll be on point with that by now and should only have a brief signal from Griffin to call for it. Hawes isn’t just a stand-around shooter, he’s been active, so Golden State should look to put a body on him and keep an eye on the ball.

Hawes fancies himself a point-center on occasion. After pulling a defensive rebound, he may be looking to take it coast-to-coast. The Warriors should take advantage of his occasional carelessness with dribbling with his head down.

The Clippers may also go “Twin Towers” with seven-footers Hawes at the “4” and Jordan at the “5”, although the Warriors announced today that Festus Ezeli is “probable”, making it possible for the Dubs to counter with comparable size, if need be.
