WARRIORS PRACTICE FACILITY, OAKLAND, CA — After the Golden State Warriors practiced today, point guard Stephen Curry was asked about James Harden‘s reported remarks about thinking he was the NBA’s Most Valuable Player last year, instead of Curry.
“I know I was the MVP,” said Harden in an interview with NBA.com’s Fran Blinebury.
“I’m obviously confident in what I do. I know he’s confident in what he does. It might come out a different way,” Curry told reporters during the media scrum. “I try not to do a lot of talking, especially on things from the past, but obviously you’ve got to motivate yourself. I’m sure he’s motivated this year to do some special things. I’m the same way. Doesn’t change what happened last year.”
Blinebury quoted Harden as follows:
.
“Credit the Golden State Warriors for an unbelievable year. They had an unbelievable team, coaching staff, everything.
.
“But that award means most valuable to your team. We finished second in the West, which nobody thought we were going to do at the beginning of the year even when everybody was healthy. We were near the top in having the most injuries. We won our division in a division where every single team made the playoffs.
.
“There’s so many factors. I led the league in total points scored, minutes played. Like I said, I’m not taking anything away from Steph, but I felt I deserved the Most Valuable Player. That stays with me.”
