THOMAS & MACK CENTER, LAS VEGAS, NV — Golden State Warriors’ second round pick Patrick McCaw was hard on himself following his second NBA Summer League game in Las Vegas Monday night.

The 38th pick in this year’s draft shot just 4 of 13 from the field and just 2 for 7 from three-point range, McCaw was critical of his inability to make open shots.

“I had a lot of good looks, they just wouldn’t fall,” the former UNLV Runnin’ Rebel said. “A lot of them were in and out, they were really good misses, the ball just really wasn’t going in for me.”

McCaw was frustrated with the results, but even in shooting poorly he showed a smooth jump shot of the hop, knocking down two three-point looks from opposite corners.

He also still leads the the Warriors in makes from beyond the arc in the team’s two Summer League games thus far.

Warriors’ Summer League head coach Jarron Collins said he was encouraged by a number of other things McCaw did on the court, including setting up teammates and creating in transition off of steals.

“He can handle the basketball, he can facilitate, he can make plays,” Collins said. “He can make his teammates better on the court. He can be a primary ball-handler at times.”

McCaw recorded 4 steals in the Warriors 78-65 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, including one that led to an uncontested dunk at the offensive end.

“One of the best things about him is how he creates offense off of his defense,” Collins added after the game. “He’s able to get steals and get out in transition.”

McCaw finished the game with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, to go along with his 4 steals.

McCaw and the Warriors will be back in action again Tuesday night against the Philadelphia 76ers at 5:30pm PST.
