Highlights Of The Golden State Warriors 2016-17 Season Schedule

BAY AREA, CA — The NBA released its season schedule yesterday, and the Golden State Warriors open the season on Tuesday, October 25th at home against the Spurs, although technically the first time they step on the hardwood for an officiated game will be on October 1st in a preseason tune-up against the Raptors in Vancouver.

Here are the seven total preseason games (10/1, 10/4, and 10/14 were announced by the Warriors on 8/30/2016):

  • 10/1 vs TOR (at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC)
  • 10/6 vs SAC (at SAP Center in San Jose, CA)
  • 10/14 vs DEN (at Pepsi Center in Denver, CO)
  • 10/15 vs LAL (at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV)
  • 10/19 vs LAL (at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, CA)
  • 10/21 vs POR (at Oracle Arena)

Earlier this month with only four preseason games scheduled, the Warriors confirmed with LetsGoWarriors.com that there would eventually be a total of seven preseason games scheduled. Be sure to follow us on Twitter for the latest and greatest.

As for the regular season, the Warriors will be featured on national TV a “maximum” of 28 times, although we were not able to confirm how that maximum was derived.

Per John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game, Golden State plays seventeen back-to-backs and has one four-game-in-five-nights stretch from December 7th to 11th, as part of a five-game road trip at LAC, Utah, Memphis, Minnesota, and New Orleans.

Per Warriors PR, the team will end up traveling 54,436 cumulative miles. However, this is still less than the Blazers — at least for just the regular season. The Blazers’ social media manager humorously tweeted in response to the Warriors that they would fly a total of 56,584 miles.

Aside from the home opener, here are some other notable games:

  • The Warriors will face the Cavs in Cleveland on Christmas, then the Cavs will visit Oracle on MLK Day.
  • The Warriors face the OKC Thunder, Kevin Durant’s former team of course, four times: the fifth game of the season on November 3rd at Oracle, January 18th at home again, February 11th at OKC, and March 20th at OKC. The one in February takes place about a week before the All-Star Break and, with Enes Kanter tweeting about loyalty and Russell Westbrook’s big contract extension and press conference earlier this month, it figures to be the most-talked-about regular season game in the NBA.
  • After the opener, the Warriors head on the road immediately for a three-game road trip to New Orleans on 10/28, Phoenix on 10/30, and Portland on 11/1, which means there will be no game on Halloween.
  • There’s a rare/weird home-and-home setup against the Lakers that sandwiches Thanksgiving: 11/23 at Oracle then 11/25 at Staples Center.
  • The Warriors visit the Hornets on January 25th after a back-to-back on the 22nd and 23rd in Orlando and Miami, respectively. Charlotte, of course, is the hometown of Stephen Curry and a big deal is always made there on his visits.
  • The nearby Kings will host the Warriors for the first time in their new arena, Golden 1 Center, on January 8th. Expect tickets to be just as near-impossible to get as Oracle, so if you want to go to this one, book early!
  • Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut, now both with the Mavs, make their return to Oracle on the eighth game of the season, November 9th.
  • The four dates against the hated Clippers, which now have DubNation fan favorite Marreese Speights are 12/7 at Staples, 1/28 at Oracle, 2/2 at Staples, and 2/23 at Oracle.
  • A road back-to-back on November 18th and 19th features Boston then Milwaukee, two teams (out of nine total!) that the Warriors lost to on the road last year. The one against the Bucks was particularly notable, considering the “24-1” t-shirts made for the game by their owner.
  • Ben Simmons and the young Sixers visit Oracle for their one-and-only trip on March 14th.
  • While the fanbase learned last year that breaking the regular-season win total means nothing in comparison to a championship, the Warriors do finish the 2016-17 campaign with a run of six straight teams that failed to make the playoffs last year. The seventh? The formerly-8th-seeded Rockets, who were swept by the Warriors in the first round, of course. To make matters even more compelling, the only road game is a quick hop over to Phoenix:

    3/31 HOU
    4/2 WAS
    4/4 MIN
    4/5 @ PHX
    4/8 NOP
    4/10 UTA
    4/12 LAL
