- “We’ve just got to be more aggressive going to the basket,” forward Kevon Looney said. “We’ve got to touch the paint more. A lot of times, we shoot the first three that we get. If we touch the paint first, then get the three, we’ll be much better.” — Connor Letourneau, San Francisco Chronicle
- Though the Warriors were comprehensively deficient in a 117-97 loss to the Lakers, the most startling element was on defense. They failed to consistently switch or communicate, which are the pillars of their defense. They repeatedly blew assignments. “We made some mistakes with our coverages that we’ll get better with,” Kerr said. — Monte Poole, CSN Bay Area
- But Steve Kerr and the Warriors’ coaching staff is harping on an another tool that can get the Warriors through rough offensive times: free throws. Attack the paint a bit more, force the issue, get to the line for easy points. CSN reported that assistant Mike Brown was pleading with his players during the first half on Friday night: “Let’s see if we can get to the rim.” — Anthony Slater, The Mercury News
- Pelicans have waived Lance Stephenson as he will undergo groin surgery and be out 6-10 weeks, clearing room for the acquisition of Archie Goodwin, who was recently waived by the Phoenix Suns. Goodwin is expected to play tonight.
