ORACLE ARENA, OAKLAND, CA — This is a continuation of the halftime recap of the Atlanta Hawks at the Golden State Warriors.

The Hawks took a 53-50 lead into halftime.

Q3: Struggling To Find A Spark

The Hawks stayed on-point to start the third quarter, getting a backdoor dunk for Dwight Howard past Zaza Pachulia, delivered by Paul Millsap, then a left baseline swish from Dennis Schroder playing keep-away with Millsap.

After that, the Warriors’ defense tightened up, but so did that of Atlanta, and Golden State hit just three field goals in the first six minutes, including a jumper from the right side after Stephen Curry slipped but got back up, an inside bucket by Pachulia fed by Klay Thompson, and a Kevin Durant jumper.

Meanwhile, Schroder got past Curry twice off the dribble.

But Durant managed to get to the line a couple times to keep the game close, and with under seven minutes remaining, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr went to his ace in the hole, game-changer JaVale McGee.

McGee made an imprint quickly, narrowly missing a putback, but then providing a screen for Steph as Curry drilled a three from a pass by Green.

However, Mike Muscala stepped up for the Hawks, drilling a three, then getting a putback of a Malcolm Delaney missed jumper over Curry. Green tried to help out, but instead fouled Muscala and he made the shot.

Klay finally got one to drop, but the buckets were few and far between:

Curry did what he could, twice drawing fouls on treys, but only getting one of them called — an open three in which he took an extra dribble to draw contact from Sefalosha. Steph missed the shot, but made all three free throws.

The and-one free throw by Muscala put the Hawks up, 76-70, with 3:20 remaining, but after a foul on the rebound by Andre Iguodala, and a miss by Millsap, Curry raced up the court to feed Durant for a right-wing splash:

As he did in the first half, the Atlanta bench answered back, Tim Hardaway, Jr. drawing a shooting foul on Curry, attacking him right baseline.

Shortly thereafter, Iguodala hit a three, but couldn’t connect on the next two open ones. Curry attacked Millsap in the paint, drew a trip to the line, but split the pair of free throws.

With five seconds to go, Hardaway missed from up top, Durant boarded, pushed the ball up court and found Clark on the right wing for a splash at the buzzer:

Durant gave a few small punches to Clark’s chest in celebration. That trimmed the Hawks’ lead to 81-80 heading into the final frame.
