Jed Hoyer is leaving the Red Sox to become the GM of the Padres. Peter Gammons is reporting that Ben Cherington will fill Hoyer’s position with the team. Cherington has been with the team as a senior vice president and acted as co-GM with Hoyer when Theo briefly left the team in the gorilla suit. He was involved in the trade that brought Beckett and Lowell to the team for Ramirez.
