If the Red Sox are serious about having Pedroia play short then signing Placido Polanco becomes a good option for Theo, especially since the Tigers are not going to offer him arbitration. Polanco hit .285 with an OPS of .727 last season. Compare that to Nick Green’s .236 average and .669 OPS last season. Signing Polanco would give the offense a boost without having to sacrifice draft picks. Theo could easily sign Polanco to a 2-year deal vs. the 3-year deal Scutaro is seeking. Palanco is a good defensive player who made only 2 errors this season and earned his second gold glove in three years.
