The Red Sox have expressed interest in Kelvim Escobar according to his agent. (via Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston)
“The Red Sox expressed early interest [in Escobar] and yes, it would be a place that would interest Kelvim,” wrote Greenberg, his agent. “We have been in the process of obtaining his medicals and Kelvim is planning on pitching winter ball in Venezuela, so we are waiting on that for now. There have been many teams who have expressed interest in Kelvim, but Boston would be at or near the top of that list for Kelvim.”
Escobar only appeared in one game in 2009 and did not pitch a major league game in 2008 due to surgery on his shoulder. In 2007 he went 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA. He was not offered arbitration by the Angels and looks to be the type of pitcher that Theo likes to take a risk on.
The Red Sox are also looking at Rich Harden.
