The bullpen needs some help after the departures of Wagner and Saito and today the Red Sox tried to address this by signing Scott Atchison to a 1 year $420 thousand deal with 2 club options. He was previously invited to spring training in 2008 but decided to play in Japan for the Hanshin Tigers. Atchison posted a 4.11 ERA in 22 games with the Giants in 2007. Last season Atchison was the Hanshin Tigers setup man where he had some good stats including 80 K’s, a 1.70 ERA, and 30 holds in 75 appearances. No guarantees he will be in the pen for 2010 but he will compete for a spot in Fort Myers this spring.
