Bay Watch: Winter Meetings

Here’s the latest buzz on Jason Bay from the Winter Meetings in Indy:

Even though Jason Bay reportedly told his former teammates that he wanted to play for the Mariners it is unlikely he will end up there according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.  The Mariners just signed Figgins and may have to shell out a ton of cash to keep King Felix so Bay may be outside of their spending ability.

Gordon Edes spoke with Seattle’s GM who said the team is interested in Bay but they have no meetings scheduled with his agent today.

The Angels however, have ramped up their discussions with Bay according to Tracy Ringolsby of Fox Sports.

“Boston officials are becoming concerned about their ability to re-sign outfielder Jason Bay. The Angels, looking to fill voids with the expected departure of Chone Figgins to Seattle, have opened talks with Bay. The Red Sox are concerned because the Angels have shown a willingness to make major moves on the free agent market.”
