Aroldis Chapman switched agents soon after his late night party photos hit the web. Since that point everything has been quiet on negotiations to land him. The Cuban pitcher is said to be able to throw 100 mph but may also have control problems. The Red Sox are the only team that has made him an offer at this point:
The Boston Red Sox, according to several sources, even went so far as to make a formal offer of $15.5 million — the only formal offer Chapman received while represented by former agent Edwin Mejia. Hendricks told teams this week that they aren’t even accepting offers at this point, so it’s likely that Boston’s offer has still been the only one Chapman has officially received.
Chapman will be pitching a bullpen session in Houston on Tuesday and the Sox scouts will be in attendance. He threw for the Red Sox scouts at Fenway last month so this session should give them a good feel for what Chapman has. If the session goes well, look for the market to heat up this week.
