If you turned off your TV in disgust after the first inning…then you are probably shocked to read that the Sox Red in fact came back to win the game last night…and sweep the Angels. There was all this talk about how if we got swept by the likes of the Orioles, then we had no shot against a team like the Angels. Well…4 games later…we got some brooms out to do some sweeping of our own.
Daisuke Matsuzaka started off shaky…and that is a huge understatement. He walked the first two batters he faced, then gave up a hit. Dice-K almost got out of it with minimal damage…when it looked like we could get a double play, but it didn’t happen. At the end of the 1st inning, Dice-K had surrended four runs and thrown 39 pitches. The upside of Dice-K’s performance is that on a night when we thought we’d see Wake by the 2nd or 3rd inning, instead Dice-K settled down and threw 4 more innings, efficiently at that. He left the game after 5.1 innings having allowing 5 ER and in line for the win.
The offense was first provided by Victor Martinez and Victor Martinez. VMart hit a 2 run HR in the 3rd and then doubled in two more runs to tie the game in the 5th. Follow that by clutch hits from Hermida and McDonald and the Sox left the 5th inning up 7-4. MDC gave up a wind assisted HR to Mike Napoli in the 6th…but no worries. The Red Sox bats came through again ending the 6th inning with a score of 11-6. Oki came on in relief of MDC and then RamRam pitched two solid innings of relief.
Also, Dustin Pedroia is a rock star. His defense last night was SPECTACULAR. He made plays and got to balls that remind us why he is an MVP.
And, we are over .500 baseball folks….let’s keep that rolling as the Yankees roll into town
RED SOX WIN 11-6 BOX SCORE
