The Red Sox have a record of 2-4 against the Yankees this season and are 7.5 games behind the Rays. After this two game series the Sox will not play the Yankees again until August, after the trade deadline. If the Red Sox lose both games it may be a very different lineup we see take the field when the two resume play. People are already wondering if Theo should go make a trade. There is still enough time to catch the Yankees and the Rays this season, but this series will let us know if the current lineup is capable of doing it. The Sox need to make a statement in the Bronx, and need to show that they should be in the conversation as possible division champs. So far they have not done much to make the case, but remember: it is always darkest before dawn. There is no better place to make a statement than in the Bronx.
