A wild and crazy night of baseball ensued after a rain delay in the Bronx. Josh Beckett gave up five runs in four and two thirds innings before leaving the game with back issues. The Yankees protested the game at that point becasue they did not belive Beckett was hurt.
Youk got the team on the scoreboard with a solo shot in the sixth. The comeback really got started in the eighth when Joba came in for the Yanks. The Sox scored four runs in the inning with some luck and timely hitting including big hits by Drew and Ortiz. Drew looked like he hurt his knee running to second and had to leave the game early, Hermida replaced him. The Red Sox took the lead in the top of the ninth after DMac singled and Scutaro reached on fly to shallow right that was botched by last night’s hero Marcus Thames. That set the scene for Hermida’s double that drove in two runs off of Yankee closer Mariano Rivera.
Papelbon came in for the bottom of the ninth. The Yankees were able to get the go-ahead run to third and the winning run on second with two outs before Paps struck out Winn to earn the save.
