Jason Bay. Remember him? You know that adorably pale outfielder that came to town when Manny Ramirez was given his walking papers? Yeah. That guy. JayBay has started his season with the Mets…not as they hoped. He’s slumping…and shockingly came into the Mets/Yanks series having only hit one homerun. ONE. I know Citifield is gigantic…but one? Yep. One. David Ortiz hit his first homerun before Jason Bay did.
Confession: I heart Jason Bay. I wanted him resigned by the Red Sox. I was shocked that Theo seemed uninterested in him as a player…and sent him on his way to have no other option but to sign with the Mets. I think Jason is a classy guy….a heck of a ball player….and gave us exactly what we needed when Manny left town. I wish him NOTHING but the best. He’s in the National League now…so basically, I want him hitting homers in every single at bat. (I was rocking my Jason Bay Red Sox shirt last night while the game was on.)
This weekend….in interleague play…the slumping Jason Bay and the Mets got the task of playing the Yankees. I live in New York….so yeah…I watched. And rooted for the Mets and our former boys, Jason Bay and Alex Cora.
JayBay started his series with the Yankees…continuing his slumping struggles. He went 0 for 3 in his first 3 at bats. After a long out at the warning track in his 3rd at bat…Bay came into the dugout…shoved his helmet into it’s cubbie…and sat there with his head down for quite a while. And let’s face it…that’s all the emotion that you’ll probably ever see from JayBay. However…in his 4th at-bat…with Mariano Rivera on the mound…JayBay suddenly realized that he is once again facing that familiar AL pitching…and once again became a Mo KILLER! He hit a nice double…and was part of an “almost” comeback. Yanks win 2-1.
Game 2 of the Mets/Yanks series. JayBay goes 4 for 4. I was watching the Sox/Phillies and the Mets/Yanks games at the same time…and every single time I flipped back to the Mets game…Bay was crossing the plate. Mets win 5-3.
Game 3….JayBay continued to like AL pitching. Jason Bay meet CC Sabathia. Jason Bay own CC Sabathia. Bay hit a 2 run HR off of CC in the 2nd inning. Then in the 5th inning…JayBay homers again. Mets win 6-4.
I love to see Jason Bay doing well…and when it is against the Yankees…even better. Jason Bay…still helping out the Red Sox…anyway he can.
JayBay. I miss you and your pale face.
