In my former life as the creator of The New York Rangers Blog, I had some success garnering support for different campaign efforts. Whether it was to get Sean Avery in the All Star game, chant “Can You Hear Us?” at Bruce Boudreau or raise money through a t-shirt sale in honor of Derek Boogaard, I was able to galvanize Rangers fans behind a cause. Whelp, I’ve now got my eyes set on a new prize: get Tanner Glass back on the Rangers roster.
Here’s Hartford Wolfpack Head Coach Ken Gernander last week (Via Pro Hockey Talk):
“We’re still hoping that he makes his return to the NHL and to do that he’s going to be a role player who finishes his checks, is a penalty killer, a reliable guy defensively to help his team late in the game protect a lead,” Gernander said, per the Hartford Courant. “And that’s how we like to use him here.
“We’re trying to do right by him by continuing to use him in a role that will give him the chance to show what he can offer an NHL team.”
Meanwhile, over at the New York Post, Larry Brooks makes this suggestion in the wake of the Henrik Lundqvist incident:
“But the idea of promoting Glass — who ideally would step in for Marek Hrivik or Matt Puempel on the fourth line — or someone like him isn’t so much about adding a deterrent as it would be to send a message that even if the Rangers won’t hit first, they will at least hit back.”
Where there’s smoke folks, there’s usually fire.
I’m getting giddy just thinking about it. And no, it’s not because I think Glass can help the Rangers. On the contrary, I actually think he immediately makes the Blueshirts worse the second he walks in the MSG locker room. However, the sadist in me just wants to see Rangerstown burn.
Can you imagine how triggered a certain segment of the Rangers fan base (cough – fancy stat crowd – cough) will be the second that announcement is made?
Plus, you’ve got to admit, it’s a lot more entertaining with Glass on the team. Who can forget this classic AV reaction after Glass’ first goal as a Rangers a mere 56 games into the season…
So how can we, the fans, influence Rangers management into actually recalling Glass from Hartford? As I mentioned earlier, becauseBrooks usually has the pulse of the team, I definitely feel the front office has at the very least discussed bringing Glass back up to the big club. I mean, there’s really nothing else for them to strategize about since the defense has been so proficient this season. So if the fan base puts enough pressure on the franchise, I feel they can be persuaded.
So let’s take it to the street! Let’s picket MSG…ok, not really. I’ve got a job along with a wife and kids to tend to. Who has time to picket? Plus, it’s freezing in New York right now. There’s no way I’m standing outside all day feezing my ass off for Tanner Glass.
Tactically and realistically (LOL!), I think the best way to make an impact is hit the Rangers social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) with demands that they recall Glass immediately while using the hashtag #WeAreTannerGlass.
And once we’re done with that, we’re going to bombard the Rangers phone lines (212-465-6000) as well as their e-mail ([email protected]) with cries of “Recall Tanner Glass!!!”
How could they ever resist!
If you want toughness on this Rangers team. If you want a great locker room presence. This may be our only chance to get Tanner Glass back on the Rangers roster. We must strike while the iron is hot. Let’s not allow this opportunity to pass us by.
