Bullpen and Mike Cameron Beat the Giants!

Since most of the Fenway West crew is at the game….lucky ducks…I’ll give us a nice post game summary.

Darnell McDonald started it off with a 1st inning homerun.  I think he took hitting in Pedey’s spot in the lineup to heart.  Laser Show.  Mike Cameron followed that up in the 2nd inning by belting his first homerun to have the Sox leading 4-0.  Laser Show.

However, during the second inning, Clay Buchholz got hurt running the bases and had to leave the game.  The game was looking to have disaster written all over it.  Scott Atchison once again was asked to come into the game with little to no warning…and he pitched himself a really nice performance.  He was followed by Ramon Ramirez, Manny Delcarmen, Dustin Richardson, Hideki Okajima, Daniel Bard and then the game was closed by Jonathan Papelbon.  The Giants knicked away getting a run in the 4th and 6th inning, but that is as close as they would get.  Also, in the 8th inning…Mike Cameron made his great day even better with a spectacular catch in Center Field.  It was a thing of beauty. Papelbon came into the game coming off his two blown saves…looked crisp and effective and had a nice 1-2-3 inning.  I think we can all step off the ledge…a little.

All in all…the bullpen really stepped up and got us a much needed win.  Buchholz’s injury has been reported as a hyperextended knee.  It doesn’t look serious and at this point, all those involved believe he will make his next start.  Phew.  If that is the case, it looks like we might have dodged a HUGE bullet right there.  Buch has been nothing but spectacular for the Sox this year, so if we had to lose him out of the rotation…even for a little while, that would be a bad bad thing.

Sox WIN 4-2.  BOXSCORE
