With a lineup looking more like something out of a Fort Myers spring training game than a mid season game in Boston, the Red Sox found a way to beat the Orioles. Tim Wakefiled kept the game away from the shaky bullpen by pitching eight innings while giving up two runs on six hits. His start was the 201st in the ballpark, a new record for the team. J.D. Drew tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth with his second home run of the night. The Sox took the lead in the bottom of the eighth with a bloop pinch-hit RBI single from Daniel Nava. Papelbon came in for a perfect ninth and earned his nineteenth save of the season. Nava reacted to the game winning hit in the locker room:
“I was just looking for anything to drive and put the ball in play hard, which is funny because that isn’t what I did, but it worked and I am sure we will take it.”
