Jacoby Ellsbury got himself and his wonky ribs on a plane yesterday and rejoined the team in Toronto. This morning…he had a brief press conference to explain his take on the course of events since his rib injury in April. He came with 2 pages of hand written of notes…stuff he wanted to make sure he got right.
Ells stated that he initially requested an MRI but was denied one by the Red Sox until he had his agent call and request one. He also stated they missed the broken rib in the back and that delayed and hampered his recovery. He went on to say that the Sox were behind him being in Arizona and he is looking forward to rejoining the team on the field as soon as possible. WEEI wrote out a transcript of Ellsbury’s press conference, so check it out to see everything he had to say.
It’s obvious there is still a disconnect between Ells, the Sox and their medical personnel. Who knows what the story really is. I do find it unfortunate that the Sox, Ellsbury, Youkilis and the likes are choosing to air this out in the media…instead of taking care of it inside the clubhouse. It can’t be helping team morale.
The upside…Ells said he feels much better and is beginning baseball activities. So, hopefully he is on a rehab stint soon…and then back in games in the Red Sox uniform. I imagine if Ells is once again making great catches out there in CF….and running all over the basepaths…people will soon forget all this drama. Here’s hoping!
