Lackey Beats His Former Team AGAIN!

How was Lackey welcomed back to Anaheim?  Lots of boos.  Booed as he was announced.  Booed as he took the mound.  Booed as he left the mound.  In between all those boos, Lackey pitched himself a gem.  He and Jared Weaver were really having themselves a pitchers’ duel.  The score remained tied until the bottom of the 3rd inning when Bobby Abreu hit a double to give the Halos a 1-0 lead.  Things stayed that way for a long, long time.  In the 7th inning, the Sox were finally able to get to Jared Weaver.  Jed Lowrie hit a double to bring home MacDonald and Scutaro.  Weaver left the game with the Sox leading 2-1.  He also proceeded to then “lose it” and do a lot of yelling and swearing in the dugout.  The Sox weren’t done with the offense yet.  Beltre hit a double and brought home Papi….who trucked himself all the way home from first base.  Bobby Abreu continued his domination of Lackey by smacking a solo HR in the 8th and that was the evening for Lackey after 8 1/3 very very nice innings.  Bard came in and took care of the rest of the inning.  In the 9th, the Sox got their run back.  Ortiz was up at the plate again and hit a ball that had out written all over it.  The Angels threw the ball away and Papi was able to beat the throw down to first base, Scoot scores.  Papi had some wheels on him last night.  Papelbon came into the game and got a nice 1-2-3 save on 9 pitches.  (Hmm, maybe all those who proclaimed that Pap is done can eat their words.)

All in all, a nice nice win.  Lackey pitched real well and Jed Lowrie also had himself a great night at the plate and in the field.  He had a two hit, two RBI night.  In the field, he was pretty spectacular as well.  In the 3rd inning, the Angels were looking to add to their 1-0 lead.  Marco fielded the ball, made a fantastic throw to home and VMart blocked the plate to get Rivera thrown out at home.  The play was perfect from beginning to end.  He also fielded a ball in the 9th inning that had hit all over it and made the play to first base for the out…look oh so easy.  Great job Jed!  I’m crossing my fingers he is still with the team after the trade deadline.
