Jacoby Ellsbury is being activated from the DL today and should be in the starting 9. The Sox haven’t announced what the corresponding move will be, but I imagine it’ll be Daniel Nava heading back down to the minors, at least for now. The only other option that wouldn’t involve having to DFA someone would be if Drew’s hamstring is more bothersome than they were indicating and he is DL bound. However, let’s all hope that isn’t the case.
Ells DH’ed in Pawtucket yesterday and went 3/5 with 2 singles and a double. He looked good, looked ready. He reported that he is still feeling some pain sometimes when he is batting, but that he has learned what it is going to feel like and how to deal with it…and most importantly, he’s learned that he is not going to injure himself more by playing through it. Ted’s Army posted the video of his post game interview after his game in Pawtucket.
Ells hopped in the car and came back down to Boston for the game last night. He met with the doctors and the staff…and after the game when asked, he said he would be activated today.
I’ll fully admit, I’m an Ellsbury fan. I think he’s gotten a rough deal during this whole event…and I couldn’t be happier to have him back with the team. So…WELCOME BACK ELLSBURY!
And a hat tip to Pete Abraham who posted an article this morning listing the playing that the Sox have had that have been available for all 107 games so far:
Daniel Bard
Adrian Beltre
J.D. Drew
Bill Hall
John Lackey
Jon Lester
Hideki Okajima
David Ortiz
Marco Scutaro
Tim Wakefield
Yep, that’s it. Everyone else has either been on the DL, in the minors, with another team or on the bereavement list. That’s nuts. And to think we are still within striking distance of the wild card.
