The Red Sox have placed Mike Lowell on waivers today. They likely made the move in the hope that he clears waivers and they would be free to trade him. Theo may also hope that a team will be impressed by Lowell’s recent homers in AAA and with the Red Sox and be willing to pick up the remaining $3.9 million on his contract.
