Bullpen does its job, Lackey does not. Round 2 – Yankees

By the time the 6th inning was over, Lackey had thrown 116 pitches, that’s almost 20 per inning. Despite striking out 7 Yankees in a lineup that was missing A-Rod, he gave up 8 hits, 3 walks, and 5 runs. This isn’t the kind of performance an $82 million dollar man is supposed to be giving. If he was a singer, he’d get booed off the stage. He now possesses a lovely 10-7 won-loss record, 4.60 ERA, and a 1.54 WHIP. Where was the John Lackey that flirted with a no hitter last month? Oh, that was against Seattle.

Manny Delcarmen and Felix Doubront each pitched 1 inning and each had 2 strike outs. Victor Martinez lashed a solo homer in the 2nd inning to get the Sox on the board first. Beltre followed with a double, and then Mike Lowell followed with another double sending Beltre home. Staked to a 2 run lead, Lackey promptly evened up the score in the bottom half of the 2nd inning.
