Jarrod Saltalmacchia will have surgery performed on his left thumb by the same doctor who worked on Youk’s thumb not too long ago, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports today. Salty has a torn ligament as a result of an injury he sustained in July while playing for AAA Oklahoma City. He did not report the injury until the middle of September. It is hoped that he will be able to return to baseball activities in 4-6 weeks, at which time he will be under the tutelage of Rd Sox catching instructor Gary Tuck.
