It’s Official: Fond Farewell to Farrell!

Today the Blue Jays had the official announcement that John Farrell has been hired as their new Manager.  When I first heard Farrell was leading the list and would be selected, I was in major denial mode.  John Farrell?  No, don’t take him!  Trust me, I’m still there…and have some lovely mature responses like wanting to call the Blue Jays jerk faces for taking our beloved John Farrell.

However, I am also very happy for John Farrell.  He deserves it.  Yes, that is a much more mature response that calling people jerk faces.  And, when Farrell comes to town for the first time the Blue Jays face the Sox at Fenway….I hope to be in the stands and to cheer my arse off for Farrell.

Some interesting tid bits which have been reported since it was official that Farrell is going to be leading the Blue Jays.  The most interesting is hearing that Manny Ramirez, who is currently a free agent and looking for a new home, said he would love nothing more than to play for Farrell in Toronto.

“Toronto has made a tremendous acquisition. Farrell is a manager I would play for Toronto is a team that I liked since I had all these great Dominicans in the 80s,” Ramirez said.

(At least that is the rough translation)

And Sean McAdam from CSN wrote an article discussing what the short list might look like for who could replace John Farrell.  There are some internal and external candidates.  I am pretty sure no one can replace John Farrell, so it’ll be interesting to see who gets to fill his very big shoes.  I am glad to hear that McAdam didn’t even breathe that Jason Varitek might be an option because other than it being a great emotional story, it’s not even an option.

Best of luck to you John!  (except of course when we are facing you!)
