The Indians completed a three game sweep of the Red Sox today in Cleveland. The loss is the sixth straight for Boston making it the worst start since 1945.
Jon Lester pitched well in the game and gave up just three hits in seven scoreless innings. The mistakes started in the bottom of the eighth when Bard walked the lead-off batter (Adam Everett) who proceeded to steal second. Orlando Cabrera bunted him over to third for the first out and then Adstrubol Cabrera laid down a suicide squeeze that caught everyone off guard and plated the only run in the game.
The Red Sox tried to come back in the top of the ninth. Ortiz walked with two outs and D-Mac came in to run for him. J.D. Drew hit a single but D-Mac overran second base and was thrown out as he tried to get back. Game over, sweep complete.
This was a painful loss against a team that the Red Sox were supposed to crush with their ace on the mound. Luckily the road-trip is over.
