The Red Sox had a chance to not only win the series against the Angels, but sweep them in a 4 game series when John Lackey took the mound the afternoon. In the last week, the starting pitching has been stellar and I was crossing my fingers that Lackey was going to keep that awesome rolling. Lackey did not disappoint. He took the mound against his former team, pitched 8 innings strong, 6 H, 1 BB, 0 ER and 6 Ks. He was STELLAR! It’s also worthy to note that Salty did a might fine job catching him. Dan Wheeler came out in the 9th and closed the game out with a quick 1-2-3.
And the offense got Lackey’s back early. The Sox scored 3 quick runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. Of course, the story of the offense was Carl Crawford hitting his first home run in a Red Sox uniform in the 6th inning. It was a great at-bat with Crawford really battling until he got a pitch to hit and took it out of the park.
Where are our brooms out??? The Sox are now 10-11 and solely in 3rd place in the AL East. Tomorrow is an off day and then we head to Camden Yards to take on the Orioles.
Sean McAdam tweeted after the game:
Assuming Lackey is done after 8 IP (107 pitches), #RedSox starters have put together an ERA of 0.88 over last nine games.
WOWZA!
RED SOX WIN 7-0
