A Great Day at the Fens

Yesterday I got to take my son and daughter to their first game at Fenway.  On the way into Fenway we finally got to meet fellow Fenway West contributor Shelley in person.

We were lucky enough to get a private tour from visiting clubhouse manager Tom McLaughlin before the game.  We got to go inside the Monster and sign our names on the wall.  Tom informed us that there is only one key to the Monster because in the past too many people had keys and the number of copies got out of hand.

We then walked along the warning track and took a look at the Sox bullpen which coach Gary Tuck has decorated in a pirate theme.  (Every Sox reliever has a pirate nickname).

Next we headed up to the Red Seat, the spot of Teddy Ballgame’s longest homer at Fenway, where both of my kids enjoyed sitting.  The seat is one of the ones the Red Sox sell on game days.

After a quick stop to sign the Pesky Pole we ran into Tim Wakefield heading out to the dugout for a side session.

Next we got to sit in the Red Sox dugout!

We watched Dustin Pedroia running the bases with his son, he even had him slide into second.

Our passes even allowed us to watch BP on the field where we met Heidi Watney.

We enjoyed the great pregame festivities for Independence Day including a fly-over by F-15’s.

Finally my son got to get his picture taken with Wally (my daughter was too afraid).
