Lester Pitches a Gem While Sox Hit HR Derby!

Jon Lester was taking the mound for the Red Sox and hoped to put the taste of that shutout loss out of the mind of Red Sox Nation.  Lester had pitched well in the season opener against New York, but this Toronto lineup has the possibility to have a lot more pop to their bats.  Lester was also facing the reigning ML Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey.

Before Lester even took the mound, the Sox spotted him a pretty lead.  R.A. Dickey faced 6 batters before he was able to record an out.  Ellsbury got on with a leadoff double, Victorino hit a single, Pedroia hit an RBI single to score Ellsbury.  Napoli hit an RBI double to score Victorino and Pedey.  That was followed up a 2 run HR from Will Middlebrooks.  Sox 5-0.  Wowza.  The Sox scored another run in the 3rd with a sac fly from Nava.  Sox 6-0.  Ellsbury scored the 7th run on an RBI Single.  Sox 7-0.  In the 5th, Will Middlebrooks hit his 2nd HR of the night and the Sox were leading 8-0.   It's an understatement to say that the knuckle wasn't knuckling.

In the 7th, Will Middlebrooks did what we thought was unpossible and hit his 3rd HR of the game.  Nava followed with a homerun of his own.  Sox 11-0.   Then Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Napoli joined the HR party in the 8th.  Sox 13-0.  The Sox went from a game on Saturday where they couldn't score any runs to scoring 13 today.

Jon Lester had all the run support he could ask for, however he wouldn't need any of it.  Lester pitched a gem in his 2nd start of the season.  He pitched 7 scoreless innings and just seemed to dominate the Toronto batters.  Lester's pitching line for the night was 100 pitches, 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB and 6 Ks.  Lester looked like the ace we all desperately need him to be.  Clayton Mortensen came out in relief and pitched 2 scoreless innings himself.

Great Game.  Great Win.  Love That Dirty Water!
