Behind Bard, Sox Win 5th Straight!

With all the discussion and controversy about Bard and if he should go to the bullpen or not, he took the mound tonight in hopes of showing everyone why he can and should be a starter.

Bard got the job done and then some.  Bard gave up a quick run in the bottom of the 1st with an RBI double to Pierzynski.  Bard gave up his 2nd run in the 3rd inning due to a throwing error and a passed ball by Shoppach.  Bard gave up the 3rd and final run in the 5th with a solo HR from Konerko.  Bard’s pitching line for the night was 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 Ks.  All in all, he was fantastic.  His ERA is 3.72 and is currently the lowest of any of the starting pitchers.  Bard was followed by Matt Albers who pitched two scoreless innings to finish off the game.

The Red Sox bats continued to back up their pitchers as well.  The Red Sox got onto the board in the 2nd with a 2 run HR by David Ortiz.  Red Sox 2-1.  The Red Sox were trailing 3-2 in the 5th when the bats went back to work.  Cody Ross hit an RBI single to tie the game 3-3.  Then the Red Sox took the lead with a bases clearing double by DMac.  Sox lead 6-3.  Marlon Byrd then hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 7-3 lead.  In the 7th, the bats continued to give the White Sox pitching fits.  Cody Ross hit another RBI single.  Sox lead 8-3.  Shoppach followed that with an RBI single of his own.  Sox lead 9-3.   In the 9th, DMac hit his first HR of the season.  Sox lead 10-3.

The other story of the evening was the weather.   Mainly, it was flippin’ cold.  At the start of the game, the temperature was 39 degrees and the wind was whipping so I can’t imagine how cold it felt.  Additionally, the weather got the Sox players to wear some warmer gear.  And as a result, I give you this picture.

A bunch of the players looked like they were prepared to rob a bank after the conclusion of the game.  Instead, they just stole another win from the White Sox.
