The Red Sox announced yesterday that Josh Beckett would miss his start on Sunday and that Franklin Morales was scheduled to make a spot start in his place. Beckett is experiencing shoulder inflammation in his right arm. As of yesterday, Bobby Valentine reported that it wasn’t a DL issue yet. However, that is no longer the case since the Sox announced today that they have decided to DL Beckett and call up Clayton Mortensen in his place. Bobby V indicated that the DL stint is precautionary in some ways since Beckett could pitch if it was necessary aka in a post season game. Beckett going to the DL does highlight one thing, the lack of pitching depth of the Red Sox. Daniel Bard doesn’t seem ready to be back. Aaron Cook isn’t ready to back. There aren’t any real MLB ready arms in Pawtucket.
I’m crossing my fingers Franklin Morales.
