Everything Was HOT for the Sox Last Night Verses Marlins

On the hottest day of the season so far at Fenway Park, the ball seemed to be flying out of the park and that added to the Red Sox offense hitting, hitting and hitting their way to a win over the struggling Marlins.  The Sox scored 15 runs, Felix Doubront got his 8th win of the season and the Sox went 2 games over 500.  Oh and every other team in the AL East lost last night too.

Felix Doubront took the mound for the Red Sox and while it wasn’t his best outing, he did pretty well throughout the evening.  Because the Red Sox kept scoring run after run after run, Doubront often had very long waits in between innings.  Mind you, I doubt he was complaining.  Doubront gave up a run in the 1st inning when Reyes was on 3rd and Stanton ground into a double play.  Doubront gave up a second run in the 2nd when Sanchez hit into a sac grounder to score Ruggiano.  Sox 0-2.  That is the last time the Sox would be trailing in this game.  Doubront gave up 2 more runs in the 4th inning with a solo HR from Logan Morrison and a RBI single from Gaby Sanchez.  Dubi’s pitching line on this hot, humid night was 88 pitches, 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 4 Ks.  Doubront was followed by Clayton Mortensen who pitched the 7th and 8th innings.  Mortensen gave up a solo HR to John Buck in the 7th, but that was the only damage during his 2 innings.  Mark Melancon came out and finished up the game with a 1-2-3 9th inning.

So, wanna hear about that Sox offense?  The Sox got on the board and took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Mike Aviles hit a 3 run HR.  Sox 3-2.  In the 3rd inning, Cody Ross hit a bases clearing RBI wall ball double to score Nava, Kalish and Papi.  Sox 6-2.  After the Marlins scored two more runs in the 4th, the Sox got right back to their run scoring ways in the bottom of the 4th.  Ryan Kalish hit an RBI single to score Mike Aviles.  Sox 7-4.  David Ortiz came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out.  What did Papi do?  Hit a grand slam of course!  That was Ortiz’s 18th HR of the year and it was a big one.  Sox 11-4.  With 2 outs, Jarrod Saltalamacchia followed suit and hit a solo HR.  Sox 12-4.  In the 5th, Papi came up with the bases loaded again.  No, he didn’t hit another grand slam, however Nick Punto did score on a wild pitch from the Marlins. Sox 13-4.  The Sox cooled off their run scoring ways until the 8th inning.  Will Middlebrooks who was in the game for Kevin Youkilis hit a 2 run HR to the Monster.  Sox 15-5.

Wowza.  What a night!  It was a hot night in the ballpark and it was also clearly a hot night at the plate.
