The Red Sox started out this game the same as the previous two, giving up a big inning in the first however the youngins on the team showed what they were made of and were able to beat up on the Yanks a little bit to take the first game of the series.
Felix Doubront started the game just as Beckett and Morales had done before him and ended up giving up 3 runs in the first. Gomez at 3rd kind of helped him out in this by starting the game off with a throwing error to put Jeter at 2nd base. Curtis Granderson hit an infield single and then Mark Teixeria neighed himself a 3 run HR to have the Yankees up early. Doubront got out of the inning with just those runs scoring and really settled down after that. Doubront gave up a double to Martin in the 2nd, but he would not give up another hit until the 7th inning. Doubront gave up a leadoff HR to Andruw Jones in the 7th to give the Yankees their 4th run, however Doubront was still looking in complete control when he left the game. Bobby V came out in the 7th with one out to get Dubi and replaced him with Matt Albers. Albers issued a walk and then got the 2 outs to get out of the inning. Clayton Mortensen was on for the 8th and much like the Yankees, the Sox 26th man was not of much use. Mortensen issued a walk, got an out, a single and another walk. Bobby V had seen enough and went to get Mortensen in favor of Teixeira’s BFF Padilla. Padilla came on with the bases loaded and one out and did his Houdini trick of getting both the batters to pop out in foul terroritory to Saltalamacchia. Aceves came on in the 9th and gave up a HR to Chavez, however got the three outs he needed to put the game away.
Now about this offense, it was something we’ve been waiting to see and most of it was done by guys who we didn’t expect. In short, Pedro Ciriaco showed a lot of people exactly what he is made of…and basically he is made of awesome. The Sox got their first run in the 3rd when Gomez hit a leadoff single, followed by a Ciriaco single and then Gomez was scored when Nava hit into a double play. Sox 1-3. The Sox got their 2nd run in the 5th when Punto hit a sac fly to score Ciriaco. Sox 2-3. The Sox were able to take the lead when Pedro Ciriaco hit a bases clearing RBI double. Sox 5-3. After Jones hit the HR for the Yankees, the Sox bats got right back after it in the 7th. Ryan Sweeney hit an RBI triple to add a run followed by RBI double from both Gomez and Ciriaco. Ciriaco was able to score on a throwing error from Russell Martin. Sox Sox 9-4.

This game was just what the Sox needed. Basically, it was awesomesauce. It was the only game of the series I could go to and it definitely was a great game to be at. In the bottom of the 8th when Ciriaco came to the plate for the final time, he got a huge standing ovation from the crowd and we all started to chant “Pedro Pedro Pedro” at him. The place was just electric.
The Sox win and the water for at least the later part of the night was very DIRTY.
Red Sox 9 Yankees 5 BOXSCORE
