Sox Show No Signs of Life in Loss to Os

The drama of the Red Sox yesterday didn’t fuel them to a win, but instead fueled them to another back breaking loss.  Beckett didn’t pitch well and then bullpen took it from bad to worse.  However, when it comes down to it the bats were only able to score 1 run in the loss to the O’s.

Josh Beckett took the mound last night and until the 6th inning it looked like he was having a decent outing.  Given how Beckett’s season has gone, I’d take decent.  Beckett gave up solo HR in the 3rd inning, however the Sox scored in the top of the 4th on a Crawford RBI single to tie the game.  Sox 1-1.  Beckett gave up another solo HR in the 5th inning to have the Sox down 2-1, but it didn’t seem like they were out of this game at all.  Unfortunately, the rails were about to fall off this game and the Sox would not crack the scoreboard again.  I can handle Beckett giving up solo HRs and even call it a decent/good outing, however the big bad inning was looming.

Beckett took the mound in the 6th and this is when things started to go all kinds of wrong.  Beckett gave up a single and walk.  Beckett gave up an RBI single to Wieters and then an RBI single to Davis.  Sox 1-4.  Bobby V had seen enough of Beckett and went to get him.  Beckett received boos from the Sox fans in attendance as he headed to the dugout.  Mark Melancon came on in relief and proceeded to give up a 3 run HR to the first batter he faced.  Ugh.  Sox 7-1.  That would be the game right there.  The Red Sox had numerous opportunities to score in the game last night, but were unable to capitalize on any of them.  Melancon would continue to pitch into the 8th inning, however the damage was done.  With 2 outs in the 8th, Andrew Bailey was out of the bullpen and into the game for the first time this year.  I guess the only good for this bad game is that it gives Bailey a completely pressure free opportunity to get his feet wet.  Bailey walked the first batter he saw and then struck out Reynolds to end the inning.

The water is clean and seemingly filled with drama.
