Jays Sweep Sox on Final Trip to Fenway

The Red Sox already owned the basement in the AL East all by themselves, however they hoped to not be swept by the Jays in Sunday’s afternoon matchup.  Clay Buchholz took the mound for the Sox and hoped to stop this massive skid they have been on. Buchholz pitched a decent game and almost a complete game, but he’d still end up with a loss at the end of the day.  The Sox are 15 games under 500 and I am not sure it will get any better from here until the end of the season.

Buchholz got an early lead when Jacoby Ellsbury hit a 2 run HR in the 2nd inning.  Sox 2-0.  However, Buchholz ended up giving up the lead in the 3rd inning.  Mathis hit an RBI single to score the first Jays run.  Sox 2-1.  The Jays then tied it up on a sac fly from Vizquel and then took the lead on an RBI single from Hechavarria.  Sox 2-3.  That lead was so nice and pretty while it lasted.  The score stayed that way until the 6th inning when Dustin Pedroia went LA LUNA and tied the game with a solo HR.  Sox 3-3.  I had such hope at that point.  Buchholz was pitching pretty well and just felt like we could possible take this game.  My hope would remain alive until the 9th inning.  Buchholz took the mound for the 9th, gave up a single to Davis, he stole second and then got to 3rd on a line drive single.  Buchholz had runners at the corners and only one out.  Gose stole second and then Buchholz IBB Johnson to load the bases with one out.  Omar Vizquel ended up getting the game winning RBI in his final plate appearance at Fenway Park.  Vizquel hit an RBI sac fly and the Jays took the lead 4-3.  Buchholz was done for the night and Tazawa came out to get the final out of the 9th.  The Sox bats were not able to rally back in the bottom of the 9th and that would end up being the game.

The Sox just continuing to go from bad to worse to epicly horrible this season.  They continue to show us that when we think it can’t get any worse, but that we have no idea where rock bottom really exists.  The Yankees head into town next and if nothing else, we could try to play spoiler for the rest of the season.  Well, if we were able to win games that is.
