I was lucky enough to win an invitation to the Farrell press conference this afternoon. The Red Sox twitter account had a contest where you could post questions to Farrell and they would pick 5 followers to invite them to the event.
Here is the winning question I posted to twitter:
I got to Fenway at 11:45am and was brought up to the State Street Pavilion where they had the room all set up for the press conference. We all stood or sat right behind all the press and within minutes the press conference began. It was really cool to be at the event that I am usually just watching on tv or online. Farrell said all of the right things and seemed very comfortable in his old home. Farrell talked about how the Red Sox organization is where he “cut his teeth” and how he was welcoming the challenge given the issues the Sox have had the last few years.
A lot of the press talked about the problems with the Red Sox pitching and what Farrell thought about that. One of the most interesting responses was Farrell saying he saw some issues with Jon Lester in particular when he was in the visiting dugout with the Jays. Farrell said that he and Lester have already talked about some of those things and adjustments that can be made. Farrell also said in reference to Bard that since he is not injured that he thinks he should be able to return to the elite form he had 2 seasons ago.
I’ve always been a fan of John Farrell and it was real nice to be able to see him officially welcomed back to the Red Sox. I got to shake his hand and wish him well. Now, I can’t wait for April to get here so I can go to my first game back at Fenway.
Here is a picture posted from the Red Sox twitter account of the twitter winners and Farrell. I’m the redhead in the bottom…of course, looking at my phone!
This was the BEST long lunch from work EVER! Thanks Red Sox! Welcome Back John Farrell!
