Buch Goes 5-0 As Sox Beat Astros!

The Red Sox officially welcomed the Houston Astros to the AL East last night and jumped all over starting pitcher Philip Humber early.  Sox sent Clay Buchholz to the mound who was sporting a 4-0 record and a 0.90 ERA when he took the mound.  Buchholz would hope to continue his pitching dominance and be the first MLB pitcher to get to 5-0.

Buchholz would be able to do just that.  The Sox bats would jump all over Humber early and give him a quick lead that he would never give back.  In the 1st inning, the Sox scored 4 runs and basically put the game to bed.  The Sox scored in the 1st with RBIs from Pedey, Papi, Carp and Salty.  Sox 4-0.  In the 2nd, Buchholz looked like he might be getting into trouble with runners at 1st and 3rd with no outs, but only allowed one run to score before getting out of the inning.  Sox 4-1.  In the 3rd, Buchholz would allow another run to score with an RBI single to Castro.  Sox 4-2.

In the 3rd inning, the Sox would get that run right back with David Ortiz's first homerun of 2013!  Papi has been on fire at the plate since joining the team from the DL.  It's been wonderful having him and Mike Napoli back to back in the lineup.  In the 5th, the Sox finally knocked Humber out of the game with RBIs from Salty and Middlebrooks.  Sox 7-2.  Buchholz would stay in the game until the 8th inning.  Buch got 2 outs, but when he gave up a single to Altuve, John Farrell went to go get him.  Buchholz's line for the night was 109 pitches, 7.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB and 10 Ks.  Buchholz has just been dominate in 2013 and we all hope this continues.

Andrew Miller came out and got the 3rd out in the 8th inning.  In the 9th, the Sox saw something on the mound we haven't seen in a while, Daniel Bard.  Bard had himself a nice inning and showed some signs of being that player we so enjoyed seeing a couple of years back.  Bard got the 3 outs and helped the Sox notch their 15th win of the season.

Red Sox 7  Astros 2 BOXSCORE

WP: Buchholz (5-0)  LP: Humber (0-5)
