The Red Sox have been carrying an extra pitcher since they placed Middlebrooks and Victorino on the DL because of the bad weather forecasts this weekend and then needing to use Aceves as a spot starter for Buchholz. The weather has cleared and Buchholz is slated to start on Friday against New York, so the Sox needed to balance their roster.
Alfredo Aceves (RHP) was optioned back to Pawtucket on Tuesday when Franklin Morales (LHP) was activated from the DL. However the Sox still needed some outfield protection while Victorino is on the DL. The Sox officially made the move of optioning Alex Wilson (RHP) to Pawtucket and recalling Jackie Bradley Jr (OF).
Wilson left quite an impression during his time with the Red Sox and a good one at that. Wilson pitched in 16 games and had an ERA of 2.50. He became a reliable arm when most Sox fans had no idea who he was when he first showed up in our bullpen. Wilson has options, so he was the guy sent back down to Pawtucket, but I'd bet we see him again.
Jackie Bradley Jr got the word yesterday that he would be heading out of Indianapolis, where the Paw Sox were playing and heading to Philly. Bradley Jr will mainly be used as a 4th outfielder with a possible spot start here or there until Shane Victorino is ready to rejoin the team. Bradley Jr has gone 15 for 36 (.417 AVG) since returning to the Paw Sox from a stint on the DL.
