It's been another week, so it's time to check in on the AL East Standings:
Things have gone well for the Red Sox since the last time we took a look. Last week the Sox were in 2nd place and heading into a week where they were playing the AL Central leading Indians and then their "rival" NL team, the Phillies. The Sox won 3 out of 4 games against the Indians and then split the 4 game home/away series with the Phillies. While the Sox had a nice week themselves, they were probably helped most in moving up the standings by the poor play of the Yankees. The Yankees just finished being swept in a 4 game series with the Mets. The Sox entered May being on top of the AL East and they will leave it the same way.
The next week will have the Sox facing their rivals and some tough teams. The Sox head to NY starting tonight for a series against the Yankees. While the Yankees have had their share and them some of injuries, they also have still been able to stay in the hunt in the AL East. After that the Sox come home to face the red hot Rangers who swept them the last time they played and then the Angels. The Angels have slumped out of the gate, but that team still has a bunch of talent that has the potential to get hot anytime. It'll be a rough road the next week, however the Sox have a chance to take advantage of the slumping Yankees having both Lester and Buchholz pitching in the series.
We'll check in and see where we are this time next week. Let's Go Red Sox!
