The Red Sox faced off with the Mariners having John Lackey on the mound. Lackey has been the Sox's most consistent pitcher this season and he would pitch well enough to leave the mound in line for the win. Unfortunately the Mariners tied the game and the Sox weren't able to get the win until the 15th inning. The good news is that the Rays lost last night, so after a long night the Sox left the field with a lead in the AL East.
Lackey didn't give up his first run until the 4th inning. Lackey gave up an RBI double to Seager to have the Mariners leading 1-0. In the 5th the Sox bats tied the game and then gave Lackey the lead back. Victorino came home by way of an error and then Pedey hit an RBI groundout to score Ells. Sox 2-1. However in the 6th Lackey gave the Mariners the lead right back. Morales hit a RBI sac fly and then Ibanez hit an RBI single. Sox 2-3. The Sox grabbed the lead back once again when Pedey hit a 2 run HR to have them leading 4-3. Lackey pitched a strong game and left the mound in line for a win. His pitching line for the night was 95 pitches, 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 BB and 6 Ks.
Tazawa came out for the 8th and ended up giving up the game tying run. Tazawa gave up a solo HR to Seager. Sox 4-4. Uehara continued his season of dominance pitching a scoreless 9th and 10th innings. It took Uehara a total of 19 pitches to get through the 2 innings. Matt Thorton pitched a scoreless 11th and Craig Breslow pitched two scoreless innings. This game started to feel like it was never going to end. Drake Britton pitched two more scoreless innings. Finally in the bottom of the 15th the Sox bats decided to be done with this game. Pedey walked, Napoli was intentionally walked and then with two outs Gomes was walked to have the bases loaded for Stephen Drew. Drew hit an RBI single down the right field line to give the Sox the win in the wee hours of the morning. Drake Britton got his first major league win in this 15 inning juggernaut.
