Jake Peavy changed his Sox from White to Red and took the mound in Boston for the first time. Peavy was up against the Diamondbacks ace Patrick Corbin who came into the game 12-2 on the season. Peavy showed exactly why Ben Cherington wanted him in his performance and received a standing ovation as he was leaving the mound in line for his first win with the club.
The score remained tied until the 4th inning when the Diamondacks took a small lead. Peavy gave up a solo HR to Goldschmidt. The Sox were able to tie the game when Shane Victorino hit a solo HR of his own to the Monster. Sox 1-1. In the 7th the Sox finally gave Peavy a lead to work with. Ellsbury hit an RBI single to score Drew and the Sox were now leading 2-1. The Sox added to the lead in the inning Victorino hit an RBI sac fly to score Holt. Sox 3-1. Peavy took the mound in the 8th, but was pulled when he gave up a leadoff single to Nieves. Peavy looked great in his Red Sox debut and received and tipped his cap to a cheering crowd as he left the mound. Peavy's line for the night was 99 pitches, 7+ IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB and 7 Ks.
Breslow came out in relief of Peavy in the 8th, but was unable to record an out before being pulled. Breslow hit a batter and then gave up a single to load the bases. Tazawa came into the game with the bases loaded and no outs. Tazawa gave up an RBI single to Hill and then Gomes made a great throw to home plate and Salty tagged out Pennington. That was the play of the game and it was awesome. Tazawa then got a K and a line out to end the inning with the Sox still clinging to a one run lead. Sox 3-2. In the 8th the Sox got some insurance runs when Salty hit a 2 run bomb. Sox 5-2. Uehara came out in the 9th and had himself a nice scoreless inning to notch the win for the home team.
