It's Friday the 13th, but it's also time to check in on the AL East Standings.
The Red Sox have continued to put a hurt on the fellow members of the AL East and are sitting pretty 8.5 games up in the AL East on this fateful Friday the 13th. In the last week the Sox could have been in a much tighter race in the AL East, but instead they won 3 out of 4 against the Yankees and then took 2 out of 3 against the Rays. Looking at the current standings, the Rays had better watch their backs because while they have struggled al September long, the Yankees are currently only one game behind them in the standings. Rays fans have to be very conflicted in the upcoming series. They have to both want the Sox to lose so they could move closer, but also want the Yankees to lose so that there is no chance they can hop over them in the standings and in the wild card race.
In the next week the Sox continue to face fellow AL East foes. The Sox face off against the Yankees this weekend and then after the off day face the Orioles and the Jays. The magic number for the Sox to clinch the AL East is 8 games and most of Red Sox Nation is waiting for that celebration. If the Sox can continue to take series after series, they will go a long way in getting those 8 needed games.
EIGHT AND A HALF GAMES. Who would have thought it?
