Lester Gets 100th Win and Sox Clinch AL East!

The Sox had the Magic Number down to one heading into last night which meant that if they took care of business that they would be able to celebrate the AL East, the first team in the AL to clinch their division.  The Sox had Jon Lester on the mound who was also looking for his 100th career win.  Both the Sox and Lester accomplished their goals last night and it ended with a celebration on the field and in the clubhouse.

The Red Sox didn't take long to get on the scoreboard.  Pedey hit a double and Nava moved him over to 3rd and then Pedey came home on a wild pitch from Rogers.  Sox 1-0.  In the 3rd the Sox added another run when Rogers walked Carp with the bases loaded.  Sox 2-0.  Lester kept the Jays off the scoreboard until the 5th inning when Lawrie hit an RBI single to score Davis.  Sox 2-1.  Lester was at 109 pitches through 6 innings and most thought he was done for the night.  Jon Lester had something else in mind.  Lester took the mound in the 7th and had himself a nice 1-2-3 inning to end his outing.  Lester's pitching line for the night was 123 pitches, 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB and 8 Ks.  That'll do.

The Sox offense got a few runs and gave the bullpen some breathing room.  In the bottom of the 7th Papi hit an RBI single to score Jackie Bradley Jr and then Carp hit a 2 run RBI single.  Sox 5-1.  Tazawa came on in the 8th, but was not able to get through the inning.  With one out, Taz gave up a 2 run HR to Lind.  Sox 5-3.  Gulp.  After Taz gave up another single, Farrell went to get him in favor of Koji Uehara for a 5 out save.  Koji got the 2 outs to get out of the 8th inning and headed in to the dugout for some 8th inning high fives.  In the bottom of the inning Middlebrooks hit a single, stole second and them came home on a Pedey RBI single.  Sox 6-3.  Koji came out in the bottom of the 9th and had himself a scoreless inning to notch down the win and the AL East.

Nicely done Red Sox, nicely done.
