Will Middlebrooks Blasts Away in Win over the Rockies!

The Red Sox had their last interleague game last night, facing off against the Rockies.  The game had Jake Peavy up against Jhoulys Chacin of the Rockies.  Peavy didn't have his best outing, but he some great run support behind him and was able to pitch himself to a win.

The Sox offense got started early by scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning.  Papi hit a 2 run RBI double and then Salty hit an RBI single.  Sox 3-0.  In the 2nd inning Peavy showed his first signs of struggle when he allowed two runs to score.  Peavy gave up a solo HR to Helton, who was celebrated before the game as this was his last home game before retiring.  Peavy also gave up an RBI double to Torrealba.  Sox 3-2.  The Sox got one of those runs back in the 3rd inning when Salty hit an RBI double.  Sox 4-2.  The Rockies were able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning though when Peavy really continued to struggle.  Peavy started the inning loading the bases with no outs, which was not ideal.  Helton ended up getting an RBI sac fly and then Arenado hit a ground rule double to tie the game.  Sox 4-4.  In the 4th inning the Sox got right back on top though when Shane Victorino hit a 3 run HR.  Sox 7-4.  In the 5th the Sox blew this game wide open when Middlebrooks hit a 3 run HR of his own.  Sox 10-4.  In the 5th inning Peavy gave up his last run of the game when he gave up an RBI double to Helton.  Sox 10-5.  Peavy pitched through 6 innings and while he gave up 5 runs and didn't look all that sharp, he got more than enough run support to still be in line for the win.

Junichi Tazawa came out in relief in the 7th and one out before giving up a single and Farrell putting Franklin Morales in the game.  Morales immediately picked off the runner at 1st and then got the 3rd out in the inning.  If Morales can continue to have outings like that, he'll get himself one of those postseason spots in the bullpen.  In the 8th the Sox kept on their scoring ways.  Salty hit an RBI single to score Victorino.  Salty had 4 hits on the night and 3 RBIs.  Then Will Middlebrooks came to the plate with the bases loaded and himself a nice GRAND SLAM.  2 homeruns and 7 RBIs on the night, not too shabby.  Sox 15-5.  Craig Breslow pitched a 1-2-3 scoreless 8th and then Ryan Dempster came out of the bullpen to pitch a scoreless 9th.

Nice win boys, nice win.
