I just watched the Official 2013 World Series Film DVD and it was wonderful. We are now a month removed from the end of a great season and the days have grown shorter as the cold winter months approach. Watching the DVD brought back so many great memories and put a smile on my face.
The DVD is well produced and is not just a highlight reel of the World Series. There are great player interviews about the terrible events on Patriot's Day and the big moments in the season, from Spring Training though the playoffs. Ben Affleck does a commendable job narrating the film without getting in the way. Highlights feature audio feeds from either the NESN or WEEI broadcasts.
My only complaint about the film is they bleep out David Ortiz's famous quote about Boston even after featuring an interview with him saying how it just came out naturally. That seemed like a poor use of censorship.
If you are looking for the perfect Red Sox fan gift for Christmas, this is it. Even if you have all of the playoff games saved on your DVR, you do not have the player, ownership, and management interviews that give you new insight into the 2013 Red Sox season. This film is the perfect thing to tide you over until Truck Day.
