The Red Sox called up Brock Holt yesterday with the news that Will Middlebrooks was to be placed on the 15 Day DL with a Grade 1 Calf Strain. However, it was alluded that this was a short term solution and that the team may look elsewhere for infield depth in the coming days. In particular it was mentioned that the team would like a right handed batter since Brock Holt is a lefty and Herrera is a switch hitter. It looks like they found that depth by signing infielder Ryan Roberts. Roberts or “Neck Tattoo” as I so fondly refer to him as was with Tampa Bay for most of last season and was with the Cubs in Spring Training, but cut before the season began.
The Red Sox have not officially confirmed this news, but Robert’s agent sent out a tweet announcing the signing. I’ll be curious to hear what the move in the 40 man roster is to get Roberts on the team.
