Sox Keep Finding New Ways to Lose

After the first inning it looked like the Sox might be on their way to their first win in more than a week.  The Sox scored 5 runs in the 1st inning and had the Rays and David Price on the ropes.  Unfortunately, Jake Peavy let the Rays hang around and chip away until they tied the game in the 5th inning.

After the 1st inning the Sox bats also went cold.  The Sox didn’t get another runner in scoring position until we were in extra innings.  Jake Peavy was done after 6 innings and the game would be in the hands of the bullpen.  Craig Breslow pitched the 7th, Tazawa pitched the 8th, Uehara pitched the 9th, Mujica pitched the 10th, Capuano pitched the 11th and 2 outs of the 12th before Burke Badenhop took over.  Badenhop pitched the 13th and 2 outs of the 14th before Andrew Miller took over.  Miller got the out to end the 14th and then found trouble in the 15th. Miller has been on the mound in the last few walk off or extra inning situations and his bad luck would follow him here.  Miller had 2 runners on and no outs and got the double play ground ball he was looking for.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t any covering where Miller threw the ball and it sailed into centerfield as Figueroa scored and gave the Rays the walkoff win in the 15th inning.

Red Sox 5  Rays 6  F/15  BOXSCORE
