The Red Sox finally won a game and hoped to get another win against the Atlanta Braves. The game was Jon Lester vs. Aaron Harang. Lester seemed super frustrated with the strike zone, at times yelling at the umpire while pitching. Like gutted through the outing and was able to leave the mound in line for the win. The Sox offense has seemed to be clicking the last few days and let’s hope that continues.
The Sox scored a single run in the top of the 1st inning when Pedey hit a sac fly to score Brock Holt. Lester started his outing by giving up a homerun to the first batter he faced. Sox 1-1. Lester seemed to get in and out of trouble in most of his innings. In the bottom of the 3rd Lester gave up his 2nd run of his outing when he Johnson hit a sac fly to score to BJ Upton. Sox 1-2. The Sox tied it up again in the top of the 4th when Ross hit an RBI single to score Sizemore. Sox 2-2. The Braves went ahead again in the 5th when Freeman hit a leadoff triple and then Johnson hit a sac forceout to get him home. Sox 2-3.
Lester seemed to really struggle through most of his innings and often be fighting himself more than anything else. He was done after 6 innings, but the Sox bats had some magic to have Lester in line for the win. David Ortiz tied the game up with an RBI single and then the Sox took the lead when Sizemore hit an RBI sac groundout to score Pedroia. Sox 4-3. The Braves then intentionally walked David Ross to get to the struggling Jackie Bradley Jr. JBJ made them suffer and hit a 2 run RBI single to have the Sox up 6-4. Craig Breslow took the mound in the 7th and got 2 outs before handing the ball over to Junichi Tazawa. Taz got the final out and the Sox were on to the 8th inning. Tazawa got one out in the 8th and then Farrell went with Andrew Miller to finish out the inning. Miller struck out both of the batters he faced to end the 8th inning. The Sox went with their closer Koji Uehara in the 9th and he had another easy breezy 1-2-3 outing to secure the win.
