Sox Lose Two in a Row to the A’s

Felix Doubront was fresh off the DL and making the start last night in place of Brandon Workman who is serving a 6 game suspension following the drama with the Rays.  Doubront hoped to have a strong outing to show that he belongs in the 5 man rotation.  Doubront struggled in the early going, but was able to settle down as the outing went on.  The game was tied into the late innings, but the A’s were able to go ahead in the 8th inning and grab the one run win.

Doubront struggled in his first inning back from the DL.  Doubront gave up a single and a walk and then gave up a 3 run HR to Donaldson to have the Sox in a 0-3 hole.  This is not how Doubront wanted to start his return to the big club.  In the 2nd the Sox were able to get 2 of those runs back when Bradley Jr hit a 2 RBI single.  Sox 2-3.  The Sox tied the game in the 3rd inning when Ortiz hit an RBI single.  Sox 3-3.  Doubront didn’t go long into the game, but he did limit the damage to the crooked number in the 1st inning.  Doubront’s pitching line was 90 pitches, 4.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 4 BB and 4 Ks.  Not great, but also not too shabby.

Badenhop came out and finished off the 5th inning and as well as pitching a scoreless 6th inning.  Badenhop got in a little bit of trouble in the 7th inning, but with 2 outs in the inning Andrew Miller came in and got the final out of the inning.  The game would be decided for the Sox in the 8th when Miller had a really frustrating inning.  Miller hit two batters and that would end up being the difference in the game.  With 2 outs and 2 runners on base, Coco Crisp hit an RBI single to give the A’s the go ahead run.  Sox 3-4.  The Sox bats weren’t able to get anything going against the A’s closer Doolittle and lost a very winnable game.
